Spotify’s next big feature could let you and your friends listen to music together

Image
Spotify is reportedly working on a new feature that would be the digital equivalent of you and a friend sharing the same headphones to listen to music together. It's already possible, of course, for users of the streaming music giant to keep up with what their friends are listening to and stocking their playlists with. App researcher Jane Manchun Wong , however, has found that Spotify appears to be testing a real-time sharing -- meaning, you and your friends could soon have a joint listening session. Apple is reportedly set to finally ditch iTunes with the next big update to the Mac operating system (APPL)

Image
Next Monday at its developer conference, Apple will announce the end of iTunes alongside an update to its MacOS operating system, according to a Bloomberg report on Friday .  In its place, Apple will reportedly announce three new apps for Macs that allow users to access their music, TV shows and movies, and podcasts in separate places. These apps — Music, TV, and Podcasts — already exist on iPhones and iPads today. The Bloomberg report also said that without iTunes, users will manage their iPhones and iPads through the Music app moving forward.  iTunes revolutionized the music software world in the early 2000s, but it's since become an object of scorn for many. It's not clear what will happen to the Windows version of iTunes. Visit Business Insider's homepage for more stories. US Justice Department is imminently preparing a Google antitrust investigation

Image
Google may soon face an antitrust investigation from the US Department of Justice pertaining to its search business and potentially other aspects of the company’s sprawling software and services empire, according to a late Friday evening report from The Wall Street Journal . The DOJ is said to have spent the past few weeks preparing for the probe, which could be a broad evaluation of the company for antitrust violations across its entire business. Citing anonymous sources, the WSJ says the Federal Trade Commission will defer to the DOJ here, following an FTC case against the company in 2011 related to the placement of tracking cookies in Apple’s Safari browser. That case was resolved a year later with a $22.5 million civil penalty judgement, at the time the largest such judgement the FTC had ever earned in court. According to the WSJ , the FTC investigated Google in 2013 for antitrust violations, but closed the case without taking any action against the search giant. The 2011 FTC

China fights back against the Huawei ban with a blacklist of its own

Image
The Trump administration delivered a massive blow to Huawei a few days ago, placing the biggest China's smartphone maker on the US Commerce Department "Entity List" that bans the sale of Huawei products in the country. The US government also banned the Chinese vendor from importing technology made in the US, which covers anything from chips and other components from companies like Intel and Qualcomm to software like Android and Windows. Other international companies have also cut ties with Huawei temporarily, including chip-maker ARM, whose silicon designs are the basis of most mobile chips used in Huawei designs. All this prompted the Chinese government to create its own blacklist, which it's currently referring to as the "Unreliable Entity List." Continue reading...
