Image
If you've haven't seen this in your Instagram feed already, just wait. It's coming. The arrival of a new year means so many things. Turning a page on the calendar, the compilation of resolutions for the year ahead, endless lists about the "best of" this or that from 2018 -- and tons of collages. Specifically, those perennial collages of nine Instagram posts that users of the Facebook-owned service create and share around this time each year. Netflix says over 45 million accounts watched ‘Bird Box,’ but that’s not the whole story

Image
Netflix a few days ago made available to its subscribers a brand new movie of the horror variety. Starring Sandra Bullock and John Malkovich, Bird Box has quite an interesting plot, one that rivals A Quiet Place from earlier this year. If in the latter you could not make any sounds, for fear of drawing monsters to your location, in Bird Box you’re not allowed to open your eyes while you’re out of your house. The punishment is ruthless, and very immediate: death by suicide. If you haven’t streamed it, you totally should, because the film is very well made, with Bullock and her supporting cast carrying it brilliantly. And, according to Netflix, the movie is quite popular with its subscribers, as some 45 million accounts streamed it within the first seven days. However, that sort of statistic is mostly meaningless, because it’s coming from Netflix. Continue reading... Bill Gates says the US has lost its global leadership in nuclear power, and needs to 'get in the game'

Image
Bill Gates published a blog post in which he reflected on the last 12 months and shared his thoughts about the year to come.  In the post, Gates said he believes the US must spend more on nuclear energy research in order to regain its global leadership leadership in that area.  Burning fossil fuels causes global temperatures to rise. Renewable energy sources don't emit the same heat-trapping gases, but Gates said breakthroughs in solar and wind energy won't be enough. Gates and other billionaires lead a fund called Breakthrough Energy Ventures that invests in startups focusing on clean energy. Bill Gates is urging the United States to invest in nuclear power research. In his annual year-in-review Gates Notes blog post , Gates noted that, despite the consequences of climate change that people face around the globe, "global emissions of greenhouse gases went up in 2018." Because burning fossil fuels (oil, coal, and natural gas) releases carbon dioxide and ot

So of course the game has its own New Year's event going on, complete with a ball drop and fireworks for when the clock strikes midnight. But "Fortnite" has a global player base with more than 200 million players worldwide; meaning that players in different time zones will see the new year at different times. "Fortnite" creator Epic Games came up with a simple solution, the New
